Why it works: Milk and vanilla are a kitchen classic. They rank in the top 5% of all ingredient pairs, and cooks put them together in 19,187 recipes. Both carry ethyl caproate, which smells fruity, apple peel. The science ↓
Chocolate and White Cake
Ingredients
Directions
Cream the butter and granulated sugar together.
Add the beaten yolks of the eggs, milk, vanilla, and baking powder mixed with flour.
Fold in the beaten egg whites.
To half of the batter, add the melted chocolate to create two layers: one white and one chocolate.
For the icing, stir the sugar and boiling water until dissolved, then bring to a boil.
Once boiling, add the vinegar and let it boil until it becomes gummy.
Pour the syrup over the beaten egg whites with a pinch of cream of tartar and beat until stiff and creamy.
Finally, add the melted chocolate to the icing and mix well.
