Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Steam-cooked oats
Form the body of the oatmeal, thickening as they absorb water and cook.
Banana
Adds sweetness and aroma to the finished dish.
Whipped cream
Adds richness and a soft, creamy contrast to the warm oatmeal.

The step that matters

Let it stand overnight. The oatmeal must fully set and firm while cooling so it can be turned out and hold its shape when reheated. Undercooked or insufficiently chilled oatmeal will slump or fall apart.

Swap the banana

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (oats, cream):

  1. Vanillafits better
  2. Coconutfits better
  3. Raspberryfits about as well
  4. Bananathe original

Fit is the average pairing score against oats, cream. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
