Asparagus on Toast

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Cut the woody part from the asparagus and tie it into a loose bundle with twine.

  2. Boil enough salted water in a large saucepan to cover the asparagus.

  3. Add the asparagus and boil until tender, but do not let the green tips break.

  4. Spread butter on crustless slices of bread and place them on a platter.

  5. Drain the asparagus and lay it in a neat pile on the toast, removing the string.

  6. Just before serving, pour white sauce over the green ends of the asparagus, leaving the white ends uncovered.
