What each ingredient does

Grapes
Provide the flavor, natural sugars, and most of the juice that is extracted.
Water
Helps extract juice from the grapes during simmering and loosens the pulp.

The step that matters

Straining through a thick cloth. Pressing and straining removes pulp and solids so the juice is clear. Using a thick cloth keeps fine particles from passing into the liquid.
