Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Lady fingers
Form the structural shell around the cream, holding its shape when sliced.
Sweet cream
Whipped into a light foam that gives the dessert its airy, creamy body.
Powdered sugar
Sweetens the whipped cream and dissolves easily into it without graininess.
Vanilla
Adds aroma and a rounded flavour to the sweetened cream.

The step that matters

Whip the sweet cream until stiff. Under-whipped cream stays loose and will not hold its shape in the mold, while over-whipping turns it grainy and can cause it to separate into butter. Stop when peaks stand upright.
