Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Dried white beans
Break down into a thick, creamy body as they simmer slowly for a long time.
Beef
Becomes tender during slow boiling and adds rich meaty flavor to the broth.
Bacon
Adds fat and smoky, savory flavor that carries through the broth.
Celery
Contributes a fresh, aromatic vegetal flavor to the soup.

The step that matters

Skimming off the scum after bringing to a boil. Foam and impurities rise to the surface as the liquid heats. Removing them early keeps the broth clear and prevents off flavors from being absorbed back into the soup.
