Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Egg
Its proteins bind to the grounds as they cook, helping them settle and clarify the brew.
Ground coffee
Provides the main flavor and aroma, extracted into the hot water during boiling.

The step that matters

Boil hard for 10 to 12 minutes. Boiling extracts flavor from the grounds, but over-extraction makes coffee bitter. Timing must be watched, and the egg-and-grounds mixture should be allowed to settle before pouring so the coffee comes out clear.
