Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Sugar
Adds sweetness and lowers the freezing point, keeping the frappe soft and scoopable.
Grape juice
Provides the main flavor and the liquid that freezes into the frappe.
Lemon juice
Adds acidity that brightens the grape flavor and balances the sweetness.

The step that matters

Beating the mixture just before serving. Freezing forms large ice crystals that make the frappe coarse. Beating the partly frozen mixture breaks these crystals up, giving a smoother, lighter texture. Doing it just before serving keeps it from melting or refreezing solid.

Swap the grape

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (sugar, lemon):

  1. Orangefits better
  2. Limefits better
  3. Vanillafits better
  4. Grapethe original

Fit is the average pairing score against sugar, lemon. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
