Stewed Tomatoes

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Pour boiling water over the tomatoes to loosen the skins, then peel and cut them into pieces, removing the core.

  2. Cook the tomatoes slowly for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  3. Season with butter, pepper, coarse sea salt, and a little sugar.

  4. Optionally, add chopped onion or green pepper while cooking.

  5. To thicken, stir in bread crumbs or add cubes of bread just before serving. Cracker crumbs, cornstarch, or minute tapioca can also be used.
