Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Peaches
Provide the bulk of the fruit and body for the preserve.
Sugar
Sweetens the preserve and helps it set and keep.
Oranges
Add juice and rind that contribute acidity and aroma.
Lemon
Adds acidity that brightens flavor and supports setting.
Nuts
Add crunch and texture to the finished preserve.

The step that matters

Cook until clear, stirring frequently. Sugar dissolves and the fruit softens as the mixture thickens. Stirring prevents the sugar and fruit from scorching on the bottom of the kettle, which would give a burnt taste.

Swap the nuts

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (peach, orange, lemon, sugar):

  1. Almondfits better
  2. Pistachiofits better
  3. Chestnutfits better
  4. Nutsthe original

Fit is the average pairing score against peach, orange, lemon, sugar. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
