Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Sugar
Adds sweetness and lowers the freezing point, keeping the frappe soft and spoonable.
Grape juice
Provides the main flavor, color and liquid base of the frappe.
Lemon juice
Adds acidity that balances the sweetness and brightens the grape flavor.

The step that matters

Beating the mixture thoroughly before serving. Sugar keeps the mixture from freezing solid, so it forms a mushy slush. Beating it well breaks up the ice crystals, giving a smooth, even texture instead of a coarse, icy one.

Swap the grape

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (sugar, lemon):

  1. Orangefits better
  2. Limefits better
  3. Vanillafits better
  4. Grapethe original

Fit is the average pairing score against sugar, lemon. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
