Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Gelatin
Sets the liquid into a wobbly gel as it cools.
Whipped cream
Adds fat and air, giving a light, creamy texture to the set gelatin.
Pineapple
Adds fruit flavour and tartness, and its juice contributes liquid to the gel.

The step that matters

Whip once the gelatin begins to thicken. If the gelatin is still liquid, whipping will not trap air and it will not thicken properly. If it has set firm, it will not whip smoothly into the cream. Whipping at the thickening stage gives a light, even texture.

Swap the pineapple

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (gelatin, sugar, cream):

  1. Vanillafits better
  2. Strawberryfits better
  3. Raspberryfits about as well
  4. Pineapplethe original

Fit is the average pairing score against gelatin, sugar, cream. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
