Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Rum
Serves as the alcohol base that extracts flavour from the citrus peel.
Sugar
Provides sweetness and balances the sharpness of the citrus juice.
Seville oranges
Supply acidic juice and aromatic oils from the peel for brightness.
Lemons
Add acidity and fresh citrus aroma that lift the sweetness.
Eggs
Whites and shells, when frothed and boiled, gather fine particles so the punch clears.

The step that matters

Heat the mixture without boiling it. Boiling a rum and citrus mixture drives off alcohol and aroma and can make the punch taste harsh or cloudy. Gentle heating keeps it hot enough to blend while preserving the delicate flavours.

Swap the orange

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (lemon, rum, sugar, egg, milk):

  1. Vanillafits better
