Why it works: Thyme and parsley match in chemistry and in kitchens. They rank in the top 1% of all ingredient pairs, and cooks put them together in 9,057 recipes. Both carry cuminaldehyde, which smells Spicy, cumin. The science ↓

Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs
What each ingredient does
- Hare
- Provides the main meat, which is braised first so it becomes tender before slicing.
- Beaten egg
- Binds the seasoned bread crumbs to the hare slices so the coating stays in place.
- Bread crumbs
- Form a crisp, golden coating that protects the meat while it fries.
The step that matters
Frying the coated slices. The coating needs hot fat to brown quickly and crisp before the meat dries out. Fat that is too cool lets the crumbs soak up grease and turn soggy.
Swap the white pepper
How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (egg, bread, lemon, mushroom, thyme, parsley, butter):
- Marjoramfits better
- Tarragonfits better
- Sagefits better

Fit is the average pairing score against egg, bread, lemon, mushroom, thyme, parsley, butter. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
