Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Sugar
Dissolves into the syrup to sweeten the drink and balance the citrus acidity.
Orange juice
Provides the main flavour and most of the liquid in the drink.
Lemon juice
Adds acidity that sharpens the sweetness and brightens the orange flavour.

The step that matters

Cooling the syrup before mixing. Hot syrup poured into the juice would partly melt the shaved ice and dilute the drink unevenly. Letting the syrup cool first keeps the drink colder and better balanced.
