What each ingredient does

Bananas
Provide the sweet, soft fruit that forms the body of the salad.
Chopped peanuts
Add a crunchy coating that contrasts with the soft banana.
Mayonnaise
Adds fat and creaminess, giving moisture and richness to the salad.

The step that matters

Chill the bananas on the cellar floor, not in the ice box.. Bananas chilled too cold can darken and lose texture, so a cool but not icy spot keeps them firm and pleasant to eat. Cold storage also slows ripening, which affects sweetness.

Swap the banana

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (peanut, lettuce):

  1. Avocadofits better
  2. Limefits better
  3. Coconutfits better
  4. Bananathe original

Fit is the average pairing score against peanut, lettuce. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
