Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Brandy
Acts as the solvent that extracts lemon oils and flavor from the rind.
Lemon rind
Supplies the aromatic citrus oils that give the liqueur its lemon flavor.
Granulated sugar
Adds sweetness and rounds out the harsh edge of the alcohol.

The step that matters

Use only the yellow rind. The white pith beneath the peel is bitter, so including it would make the liqueur taste harsh. Removing it keeps the flavor clean and lemony.

Swap the lemon

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (brandy, sugar):

  1. Vanillafits better
  2. Apricotfits better
  3. Raisinfits better
