Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Beef
Provides the meaty flavor and gelatin that the slow cooking draws into the liquid.
Cold water
Slowly draws flavor out of the meat and carries it into the tea.
Celery leaves
Adds a fresh, herbal aroma to the broth.

The step that matters

Gradually bring the water to a boil. Heating slowly while the bottle stays corked and sealed in lukewarm water lets the meat release its juices gently. Rapid heating can toughen the meat and make the tea less clear.

Swap the parsley

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (celery, beef):

  1. Tarragonfits about as well
  2. Pepperfits about as well
  3. Parsleythe original
  4. Rosemaryfits about as well

Fit is the average pairing score against celery, beef. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
