Water-melon Cake

Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 350°F (175°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. In a bowl, cream together 2 cups of white sugar and 1 cup of butter.

  3. Add 1 cup of sweet milk and mix well.

  4. Gradually add 3 ½ cups of flour and 2 teaspoons of Royal Baking Powder.

  5. In another bowl, cream together 1 cup of red sugar and ½ cup of butter.

  6. Add ⅓ cup of sweet milk and mix well.

  7. Gradually add 2 cups of flour and 1 teaspoon of Royal Baking Powder.

  8. Fold in 1 cup of raisins.

  9. Incorporate 8 egg whites into the white batter and 4 egg whites into the red batter.

  10. Carefully layer the red batter around the tube of the pan before adding the white batter.
