Doughnuts or Fried Cakes
Ingredients
Directions
Heat lard in a deep pot until it reaches the boiling point but does not smoke.
Drop a small piece of dough into the lard to test the temperature; it should bubble up.
Fry the doughnuts for about 10 minutes until they are a delicate brown outside and cooked inside.
For crullers, fry for about 5 to 6 minutes.
Turn the doughnuts almost constantly to ensure even rising and browning.
Once cooked, remove them from the lard and drain until no more grease drips.
