Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Lean mutton
Gives the broth its meaty flavour as it simmers into the water.
Rice
Thickens the broth slightly as its starch releases during simmering.
Milk
Adds richness and softens the broth's flavour near the end of cooking.

The step that matters

Simmer the rice gently, stirring often. Rice starch can settle and scorch on the bottom of the pot. Stirring keeps it suspended and evenly cooked, and a gentle simmer avoids a hard boil that could break up the grains.

Swap the parsley

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (mutton, rice, milk, pepper):

  1. Cardamomfits better
  2. Turmericfits better
  3. Cinnamonfits better
  4. Parsleythe original

Fit is the average pairing score against mutton, rice, milk, pepper. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
