What each ingredient does

Finely pulverized coffee
Provides the flavor compounds that dissolve into the hot water during brewing.

The step that matters

Pouring the boiling water and letting it drip. Water that is too hot or too long in contact with the grounds pulls out bitter compounds, while too little time leaves the coffee weak and flat.
