Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Cooked chicken
Provides the main protein and bulk of the dish.
Standard white sauce
Forms the creamy base that carries and moistens the chicken.
Almonds
Add crunch and a nutty flavour that contrasts with the smooth sauce.
Egg yolk
Enriches the sauce and thickens it slightly when gently heated.

The step that matters

Stirring in the egg yolk. The yolk must be added just before serving and cooked only briefly. Yolk proteins set at moderate heat, so overheating curdles the sauce into grainy lumps and thins its smooth texture.

Swap the almond

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (chicken, sauce, egg):

  1. Sesamefits better
  2. Peanutfits better
