Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Eggs
Whites trap air for lift and the yolks add richness and set the omelette.
Canned tomatoes
Provide moisture and acidity that give the omelette its flavour and filling.
Soda cracker
Its starch thickens the stewed tomatoes so they hold together in the omelette.
Butter
Adds fat for flavour and helps the bottom brown in the pan.

The step that matters

Folding the egg whites. Whites hold air only when whipped and folded gently; stirring or deflating them makes the omelette flat and dense instead of rising.

Swap the tomato

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (onion, pepper, egg, butter):

  1. Chivefits better
  2. Potatofits better
  3. Capsicumfits better
  4. Tomatothe original

Fit is the average pairing score against onion, pepper, egg, butter. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
