What each ingredient does

Grapefruits
Provide the main citrus flavour and acidity that give the punch its character.
Shredded pineapple
Adds fruit flavour and sweetness while its juices soften and blend into the base.
Sugar
Adds sweetness that balances the sharp acidity of the grapefruit.
White grapes
Add juicy pieces and a mild sweetness that stay fresh when added at the end.

The step that matters

Add the carbonated water just before serving. Carbonation escapes quickly from liquid, especially when warm or stirred vigorously, so adding it late keeps the punch lively and fizzy.
