Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Flour
Forms the stiff dough for the noodles and coats the chicken so it browns.
Egg
Binds the flour into a stiff, workable dough for the noodles.
Chicken
Provides the main protein and rich flavor as it browns and simmers into the broth.
Okra
Thickens the soup and adds a mild, slightly viscous texture.
Tomatoes
Adds acidity and body to the soup.
Onion
Adds sweetness and aromatic depth when sautéed in the frying grease.

The step that matters

Rolling the dough as thin as possible. Thin dough cooks through quickly in the broth and stays tender. Thick dough stays doughy and chewy in the center, so rolling it thinly before cutting matters for the noodles.

Swap the onion

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (flour, egg, chicken, okra, tomato, rice):

  1. Capsicumfits better
  2. Asparagusfits better
  3. Spinachfits better
  4. Onionthe original
