What each ingredient does

Bananas
Provide the main flavour and body of the dessert once cooked and sieved.
Gelatin
Sets the banana mixture so it holds its shape when chilled.
Plain junket
Forms a soft, delicate layer on top of the set banana base.

The step that matters

Stir until the gelatin dissolves. Gelatin must fully dissolve before chilling, or it will set unevenly and leave a grainy or lumpy texture. Stirring thoroughly in the warm mixture ensures it is evenly distributed so the dessert sets smoothly throughout.

Swap the orange

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (banana, sugar, gelatin, junket, cream):

  1. Vanillafits better
  2. Strawberryfits better
  3. Peachfits better
  4. Orangethe original

Fit is the average pairing score against banana, sugar, gelatin, junket, cream. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
