Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Strawberry pulp
Supplies the main strawberry flavor and most of the liquid that sets into the ring.
Gelatine
Sets the liquid into a firm, sliceable structure when chilled.
Sugar
Sweetens the gelatin mixture and balances the tartness of the strawberries.
Whipped cream
Adds a light, rich texture and fat that contrasts with the firm gelatin.

The step that matters

Soak the gelatin until soft before dissolving it. Gelatin must hydrate in cold water before heating; if it is dropped straight into hot liquid it clumps and sets unevenly, leaving a weak or grainy ring.

Swap the strawberry

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (sugar, cream):

  1. Vanillafits better
  2. Strawberrythe original
  3. Raspberryfits about as well
  4. Raisinfits less well

Fit is the average pairing score against sugar, cream. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
