Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Cabbage
Forms the bulk of the dish and becomes tender when cooked.
Butter
Adds richness and carries flavor through the stewing.
Flour
Thickens the liquid so the cabbage is held in a coating sauce.
Cream or white sauce
Adds moisture and richness, forming the body of the stew.

The step that matters

Stirring the cabbage until dry. Cabbage released from boiling holds a lot of water. Drying it over medium heat in butter lets the flour thicken the cream properly instead of thinning it into a watery sauce.

Swap the cabbage
