Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Chicken
Provides the main protein, which cooks through in the simmering liquid.
Onion
Softens and sweetens as it cooks, adding body to the sauce.
Butter
Carries the curry spices and adds richness to the sauce.
Curry powder
Supplies the main spice aroma and flavour of the dish.
Flour
Thickens the sauce as it cooks with the fat and liquid.
Ham
Adds savoury, salty depth to the sauce.

The step that matters

Simmer gently until the chicken is cooked through. Boiling hard toughens chicken muscle and can break up the sauce. A gentle simmer cooks the meat evenly while keeping it tender and the sauce smooth.
