What each ingredient does

Chestnuts
Provide the main bulk and a soft, starchy, slightly sweet texture.
Bread
Gives the stuffing body and absorbs the butter and cream to stay moist.
Melted butter
Adds fat and richness, coating the bread crumbs for a tender texture.
Sweet cream
Adds moisture and richness so the bread softens evenly.
