Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Tomatoes
Provide the main body and flavor of the jelly.
Gelatin
Sets the tomato liquid into a firm, sliceable jelly.
Whipped cream
Adds richness and a soft, creamy texture to the sauce.
Horseradish
Adds sharp heat that contrasts with the sweet tomato.

The step that matters

Pour the hot tomato mixture over the dissolved gelatin. Gelatin must be fully dissolved and the tomato mixture hot enough to melt it evenly; otherwise lumps or uneven setting can result in the finished jelly.

Flavor stand-ins for the cinnamon

  1. Garlicbetter flavor fit
  2. Tarragonbetter flavor fit
  3. Celerybetter flavor fit
  4. Cinnamonthe original

Fit is the average pairing score against tomato, onion, vinegar, pepper, gelatin, horseradish, cream. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes. This compares flavor only: it does not check the job the ingredient does in the dish (bulk, moisture, acidity, structure).
