Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Gelatin
Sets the mixture so it holds its shape when chilled and unmolded.
Heavy cream
Adds richness and a light, airy texture when whipped and folded in.
Loaf sugar
Sweetens the cream and helps dissolve the syrup into a smooth base.
Grated pineapple
Provides the main pineapple flavor and fruity body to the cream.

The step that matters

Allow the mixture to cool completely before folding in the cream. Whipped cream deflates if folded into warm liquid, and gelatin begins to set as it cools, so the cream should be added only once the base is cool but still pourable.

Swap the pineapple

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (sugar, gelatin, cream):

  1. Vanillafits better
  2. Strawberryfits better
  3. Raspberryfits about as well

Fit is the average pairing score against sugar, gelatin, cream. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
