Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Cream or milk
Forms the liquid base that becomes a moist, creamy sauce around the fish.
Flour
Thickens the liquid into a smooth sauce that holds the fish together.
Butter
Adds richness and fat, and browns the sauce and topping in the oven.
Cold boiled fish (or canned salmon)
Provides the main protein, which is already cooked and needs only heating through.
