Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Butter
Adds richness and flavour to the rice stuffing.
White sauce
Adds creamy moisture and mild richness over the breast when served.

The step that matters

Simmer for 20 minutes per pound. Simmering gently in salted water cooks the chicken through without toughening the meat. Boiling it hard can make the meat tough and dry, so the water should stay at a gentle simmer.

Swap the parsley

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (chicken, butter, pepper, sauce, egg):

  1. Parsleythe original
  2. Tarragonfits about as well
  3. Capersfits about as well
  4. Thymefits less well

Fit is the average pairing score against chicken, butter, pepper, sauce, egg. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
