Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Gelatin
Sets the mixture into a firm, sliceable structure once chilled.
Heavy cream
Adds richness and a light, airy texture when whipped and folded in.
Grated pineapple
Provides the main fruit flavor and acidity, with body from its pulp.
Loaf sugar
Sweetens the mixture and helps dissolve the base into a syrup.

The step that matters

Allow the mixture to cool completely before folding in the cream. Gelatin begins to set as it cools, and whipped cream folded into warm mixture will deflate and lose its airiness, while a cooled base keeps the cream stable.

Swap the pineapple

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (sugar, syrup, gelatin, cream):
