What each ingredient does

Grapefruit
Forms the edible shell and adds tart, juicy flavor that balances the sweet fillings.
Banana
Adds creamy body and natural sweetness to the fruit mixture.
Marshmallows
Soften slightly and add sweetness and a soft, chewy texture.
Pineapple
Adds sweet acidity and juiciness to the filling.
Orange
Adds sweetness and bright citrus aroma to the filling.

The step that matters

Keeping the grapefruit meat firm. Removing the meat and fiber while keeping it firm preserves its structure, so the cut pieces hold their shape in the filling instead of turning mushy and watery.
