Milk Punch
Ingredients
Directions
Make the milk punch
Heat the milk in a clean saucepan over medium heat.
In a bowl, beat the egg until frothy.
When the milk begins to bubble, skim off the froth and pour it into the beaten egg, mixing quickly to avoid curdling.
Repeat this process until half of the boiling milk is mixed with the egg.
Pour the remaining milk into the egg mixture, then back into the saucepan, and repeat until frothy and well mixed.
Add a pinch of salt, sugar, and nutmeg or ginger to taste.
Serve
Serve hot in a tumbler, optionally with a slice of dry brown bread toast or a biscuit.

Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs
What each ingredient does
- New milk
- Forms the liquid base that is heated and frothed into the drink.
- Egg
- Adds body and a thick, frothy texture when beaten into the hot milk.
The step that matters
Mixing the hot milk into the egg. Pouring hot milk into egg too fast or without constant mixing can cook the egg unevenly and curdle the drink. Adding the milk gradually while stirring quickly keeps the egg smooth and evenly warmed.
Swap the nutmeg
How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (milk, egg, sugar):
- Cinnamonfits better
- Nutmegthe original
- Gingerfits less well
- Allspicefits less well
Fit is the average pairing score against milk, egg, sugar. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
