Caramel Cake

Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 350°F (175°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. In a bowl, cream together the sugar and butter.

  3. Beat in the yolks of the eggs, then add the milk.

  4. Mix in the baking powder and flour.

  5. In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff and fold them into the batter.

  6. Add the melted chocolate and extract, mixing well.

  7. Pour the batter into a greased cake pan and bake until a toothpick comes out clean.

  8. For the filling, thicken milk or cream with powdered sugar to desired consistency.
