Oven, in the book's wordsA moderately quick oven

Ingredients

Directions

The book says “a moderately quick oven”. The 350°F (175°C) in the steps is the modern equivalent, not the book's own figure.

  1. Prepare the Cup Cake batter as directed.

  2. Remove one-third of the batter and stir in the melted chocolate.

  3. Bake this chocolate batter as one layer of cake.

  4. Use the remaining batter to make two additional layers.

  5. Bake all layers in a moderate oven at 350°F (175°C) for 20 minutes.

  6. Assemble the cake by placing the chocolate layer in the center.

  7. Ice the cake with Boiled Chocolate Icing.
