How to Make Lye Hominy
Ingredients
Directions
Punch a few holes in the bottom of a clean tin bucket.
Cover the bottom with straw and fill with ashes.
Pour water on the ashes and let the lye drip into a clean vessel.
Cover the corn with the lye and cook until the outer husk is loose.
Rinse the corn and rub it between your palms to remove the outer husk.
Wash the corn, soak it overnight, and cook in the soaking water until tender.
Serve boiled as a vegetable or brown in bacon drippings for added flavor.
