Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Concord grape juice
Provides the main flavor and color of the sherbet.
Sugar
Sweetens the sherbet and keeps it softer by lowering the freezing point.
Lemon juice
Adds acidity that brightens the grape flavor.

The step that matters

Freeze until a stiff ice forms. Freezing must be stopped at the right firmness. Sugar lowers the freezing point, so the mixture stays scoopable, but if it freezes fully it becomes hard and icy.

Swap the grape

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (lemon, sugar):

  1. Orangefits better
  2. Limefits better
  3. Vanillafits better
  4. Grapethe original

Fit is the average pairing score against lemon, sugar. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
