Ingredients

Directions

The book says “a slow oven”. The 350°F (175°C) in the steps is the modern equivalent, not the book's own figure.

  1. Cream together the powdered sugar and butter.

  2. Add part of the flour and the warmed milk, then the beaten yolks of the eggs.

  3. Mix in the remaining flour and the beaten egg whites.

  4. Stir in the grated nutmeg, wine, brandy, and baking powder.

  5. Fold in the raisins and citron last.

  6. Pour the batter into two loaf pans.

  7. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 1 hour and 15 minutes.
