Beef Pie with Potato Crust

Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 350°F (175°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point. The book gives no cooking times either; the times in the steps were added in transcription, so check for doneness rather than trusting the clock.

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. In a bowl, mix 2 cups of flour, ½ teaspoon salt, and 2 teaspoons baking powder.

  3. Cut in ⅓ cup shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  4. Stir in ½ cup milk to form a dough.

  5. Roll out the dough on a floured surface using ½ cup flour.

  6. Place the rolled dough in a pie dish and fill with beef filling.

  7. Top with 1 cup of mashed potatoes and bake for 30-40 minutes.
