Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Strawberries
Provide the main flavour, colour and the juice that forms the base of the ice.
Syrup
Sweetens the ice and lowers its freezing point so it stays softer.
Lemon juice
Adds acidity that brightens the strawberry flavour.

The step that matters

Working the mixture in the freezing pot. Stirring and scraping as it freezes breaks up ice crystals, giving a smooth, creamy texture rather than a hard, coarse ice.

Swap the lemon

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (syrup, strawberry):

  1. Vanillafits better
  2. Pineapplefits better
  3. Peachfits better
  4. Lemonthe original

Fit is the average pairing score against syrup, strawberry. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
