Hot Cross Buns
Ingredients
Directions
Make a warm, slack sponge with the milk, yeast, and flour.
When the sponge is ready, add the sugar, beaten eggs, salt, and flavor.
Mix in more flour, then add the softened butter and finish mixing.
Fold in the currants and let the dough rise until doubled in size.
Break the dough into small pieces, shape into rounds, and place on pans with space between them.
Allow to rise until half proof, then stamp or cut a cross on top.
Wash with an egg wash, let rise again, and bake in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) until golden.
Ice with vanilla water icing after baking.
