Bread Sticks

Oven, in the book's wordsA cool oven

Ingredients

Directions

The book says “a cool oven”. The 300°F (150°C) in the steps is the modern equivalent, not the book's own figure.

  1. Prepare the Vienna dough or common roll dough with good shortening and a little sugar.

  2. Place the dough in a cool area to stiffen and lose some springiness.

  3. Break the dough into small pieces and shape them into long strips, the length and thickness of a pencil.

  4. Place the strips on baking pans, allow them to rise, and bake in a cool oven at 300°F (150°C) until very crisp and dry.
