Rings and Pretzels

Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 400°F (200°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

  1. Roll the dough and incorporate raisins, cinnamon sugar, chopped nuts, or citrus peels.

  2. Roll out the dough into a sheet about 1 inch thick and 10 to 12 inches wide.

  3. Cut strips 1½ inches wide and twist each strip into a rope shape.

  4. Place the twisted strips on pans in ring or pretzel shapes.

  5. Proof the shapes, then egg-wash them before baking.

  6. Bake at 400°F (200°C) until golden.

  7. Frost with water icing when done, and sprinkle with chopped almonds or nuts if desired.
