Ingredients

Directions

Shape the rolls

  1. Roll dough into strips 4 to 5 inches wide, 16 to 18 inches long, and ¼ inch thick.

  2. Spread raspberry jam along the center of each strip.

  3. Fold the sides over to enclose the jam.

  4. Pull out and flatten each strip.

  5. Cut the flattened strips into pieces.

  6. Let the pieces prove.

Bake and ice

  1. Brush each piece with egg wash and sprinkle with chopped nuts.

  2. Bake in a moderate oven at 350°F (175°C) until golden.

  3. Prepare icing with water and lemon flavor.

  4. Ice the rolls.

Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Raspberry jam
Provides a sweet, fruity filling that stays inside the rolls as they bake.
Egg
Egg wash gives the pieces a glossy, golden-brown surface when baked.
Chopped nuts
Add crunch and a toasted flavor to the outside of the rolls.

The step that matters

Enclose the jam fully when folding the sides. If the dough edges are not sealed over the jam, the filling can leak out during proving and baking, leaving dry, sticky patches and an uneven shape.

Swap the nuts

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (raspberry, egg, lemon):

  1. Pistachiofits better
  2. Almondfits better
  3. Peasfits better
  4. Nutsthe original

Fit is the average pairing score against raspberry, egg, lemon. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
