Directions

Prepare the strawberries

  1. Crush the strawberries with half of the sugar and the lemon juice. Let it stand for 1 hour.

Make the syrup and freeze

  2. Add the cooled syrup to the strawberry mixture, freeze, and serve with whipped cream.

Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Strawberries
Provide the main fruit flavor, color, and bulk of the frozen dessert.
Sugar
Adds sweetness and softens the frozen texture by lowering the freezing point.
Lemon juice
Adds acidity that brightens the strawberry flavor and balances the sweetness.

The step that matters

Cool the syrup before adding it. Warm syrup would soften or partly melt the strawberry mixture and slow freezing, which can make the texture icy or uneven. Cooling it first helps the dessert freeze smoothly.

Swap the lemon

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (sugar, cream):

  1. Vanillafits better
  2. Strawberryfits better
  3. Raspberryfits better
  4. Lemonthe original

Fit is the average pairing score against sugar, cream. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
